Elastic Path was founded in 2000 in Vancouver, Canada. It started in the years 2011/2012 to develop a headless offering on top of their existing enterprise commerce offering which they initially called Digital Commerce API (DCAPI). This product was launched in July 2013 under the name Elastic Path Cortex and became a core part of their offering. Elastic Path is recognised as a globally relevant platform by Forrester, Gartner and IDC and has about 200 employees. It's software is used by companies like Intuit, Carneval, T-Mobile and Swisscom. In January 2020 Elastic Path announced the acquisition of Moltin - another early headless commerce platform - at the NRF show in New York.
